Adult Performances
Lorraine Hartin-Gelardi finds the experience of sharing stories through the spoken word to have a profound power to enlighten and educate. Her eclectic mix of literary tales, myths, and folktales enables her to tell stories to all manner of audiences, both young and old, at conferences, in libraries, churches, retirement homes, and at festivals. Some of her programs for adults are listed below.
Under A Celtic Moon: An Evening of Irish Stories
A midnight ride on the back of the pooka that leads to an unforgettable evening and a farmer that confounds the superiority of his employer are just two of the stories from this magical evening of traditional and not so traditional Celtic tales about love, death, marriage and luck.
Tales of Hope and Courage
The Star in the Window, a true story of how citizens in Billings, Montana overcame hatred and My First Halloween, a personal account of family courage, are combined with wisdom tales from around the world in a program that encourages us to see the goodness in the world. The stories examine our history and our memories to show us that we can triumph over difficulty.
The Adventures of Jack
“There’s a little bit of Jack in all of us,” says Lorraine as she begins this lively program of tales about the adventurer called Jack. Jack tales migrated to this country from the British Isles long, long ago and have been part of American folklore ever since. Jack is a timeless hero whose hilarious antics often reveal profound truths about the human condition and his escapades are filled with both humor and wisdom.
Old Wives’ Tales: Stories of Women and Their Husbands
Lorraine explores the oftentimes perplexing relationship between men and women in a delightful array of folktales and personal tales laced with humor and insight.
School Daze
Lorraine uses a combination of literary and original tales to take you on a journey into the classroom and beyond. Kindergarten calamities, Catholic school memories of less than traditional nuns and the wisdom of children are combined in this lively collection of tales about learning and life.
"Lorraine, thank you so much for sharing your storytelling gift with us this Lenten season. You’ve done a fabulous job making our chosen themes comes to life with your thought provoking stories. People have loved them and so have I."
Rev. Dr. Marie Sheldon, Associate Pastor.
New Hackensack Reformed Church
"Lorraine Hartin-Gelardi's expressive face and gestures season the words and sounds of her stories. She is mesmerizing. The energy she generates with an audience is perceptible, it warms and fills the space, as does the laughter and the smiles it produces. She's remembered well by our audience. We've been pleased and privileged to have her as a storyteller at Story Sundays at the Glen Sanders Mansion, Scotia, NY."
